Stalking is a criminal offense which is related to harassment, continuous contact, watching, following, or threatening another person. Stalking most often occurs over a period of time, placing the victim in reasonable fear for his or her safety, or for the safety of his or her immediate family members. Stalking may be committed by way of the internet and computers, and in these situations it may be referred to as "cyber stalking."
